Brad Barton

Brad Barton was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as the Director of Commercialization & Deployment for the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) in 2006. Barton is responsible for accelerating the deployment of emerging energy technologies into the marketplace. In this role, Barton works closely with various EERE program offices, national research laboratories and private industry to increase our nation’s energy security and enhance our economic prosperity.

Prior to joining the Department of Energy, Barton worked nearly seven years at Hillwood Development in Dallas, Texas. Hillwood, a Perot company, owns and manages a diverse investment portfolio that includes real estate, energy, and private equity activities. While at Hillwood, Barton oversaw investments in natural gas, pharmaceuticals, clean energy and enterprise software.

Civically, Barton is a founding member of the Dallas Leadership Council. The 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation promotes community involvement for our nations’ next generation of leaders and is very active in the support of people with severe physical and mental disabilities.

Barton, a fifth generation Texan, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University. He also holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Stanford University.

Barton is married to the former Amy Atwood. They reside in Alexandria, Virginia with their three children.

 

Terence L. Darby
Managing Partner
Energy Investors Funds

Mr. Darby joined Energy Investors Funds (EIF) in 2001. He manages the New York office and is responsible for the investment development and investment strategy teams. Together with the other two Managing Partners, John Buehler and Herb Magid, Mr. Darby is responsible for the overall investment, asset management, strategic planning, and operations of EIF and the funds it manages. He serves on the boards of all the EIF funds and management companies, as well as the Executive Committee and Board of EIF. Prior to joining EIF, Mr. Darby was responsible for Dresdner Kleinwort Benson’s Power & Utility sector activity in North America. As such, he covered all North American-based clients in the sector and headed a team of 20 professionals. The team spearheaded the origination of the firm’s full range of investment and commercial banking services, focusing primarily on project financing, structured utility financing, and related advisory and private equity investing. Mr. Darby has closed over 200 domestic and international transactions in the utility and power sectors. He has over 20 years of experience in the financial industry, including 18 years with the Dresdner Bank Group in various fields including private equity, leveraged lending, and high-yield debt. Mr. Darby holds a Masters of International Business Studies from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelors of Mathematics from the State University of New York.

 

Ken Hersh
Chief Executive Officer
NGP Energy Capital Management

Ken Hersh, 44, is the Chief Executive Officer of NGP Energy Capital Management, the premier investment franchise in the energy industry.  Founded in 1988, the NGP platform aggregates over $4.0 billion of committed capital and is comprised of Natural Gas Partners, NGP Capital Resources Company, NGP Energy Technology Partners and NGP Midstream & Resources, L.P.  Mr. Hersh is responsible for directing the strategic and investment activities of the firm.  He serves as a Managing Partner of Natural Gas Partners and Chairman of the Board of NGPC.  In addition, he chairs the Investment Committees of NGP Energy Technology Partners and NGP Midstream & Resources, L.P.
 
Under his leadership, NGP has invested over $2.5 billion in over 120 private energy companies located throughout North America.  In addition, the firm has been the catalyst for some of the larger recapitalizations and merger transactions in the independent oil and gas sectors.  In total, NGP has been a leader in structuring and negotiating transactions totaling over $20 billion. 
 
Mr. Hersh currently serves as a director of Energy Transfer Partners, Energy Transfer Equity, Eagle Rock Energy Partners and NGPC as well as numerous private companies.  Previously he has served as a director of numerous public companies, including, among others, HS Resources, Pioneer Natural Resources, Prize Energy, Titan Exploration and Encore Acquisition Company.  In addition, he currently serves on the Advisory Council of The Bendheim Center for Finance at Princeton University and previously served as a member of the Management Board of Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.  He is a frequent lecturer at industry functions covering topics relating to the oil and gas, corporate finance and private equity sectors. 

Prior to his involvement with NGP, he was employed by the investment banking division of Morgan Stanley & Company where he was a member of that firm’s Energy Group specializing in oil and gas financing and merger and acquisition transactions. 

Mr. Hersh was born and raised in Dallas, Texas.  He attended Princeton University where he graduated magna cum laude with a bachelors degree in Politics in 1985.  In 1989, Mr. Hersh earned his MBA degree from Stanford University where he was awarded the distinction of an Arjay Miller Scholar.

Mr. Hersh and his wife, Julie, have two children and reside in Dallas where they serve on several educational and civic boards of directors.

Doug Kimmelman
Senior Partner
Energy Capital Partners

Mr. Kimmelman is Senior Partner and founder of Energy Capital Partners, a private equity firm formed in 2005 to focus on investments in North American power generation, electric transmission and midstream gas assets.

The firm’s first fund, Energy Capital Partners I, having completed a $2.25 billion fund raise, is in the investment phase of committing equity capital across these asset classes on behalf of major pension funds, endowments, insurance companies, individuals and other significant pools of investment capital.  The fund acquired 15 power facilities from Northeast Utilities for $1.34 billion in 2006.

Energy Capital consists of a team of 25 investment professionals with offices in Short Hills, New Jersey and San Diego, California.

Prior to the formation of Energy Capital, Mr. Kimmelman was a Partner of Goldman Sachs, having spent 22 years with the firm exclusively focused on electric and gas utility matters.  Mr. Kimmelman was instrumental in the formation of Goldman Sachs’ principal investing activities in the power sector, helping to found Orion Power as well as leading Goldman’s more recent acquisition program to add power assets to the balance sheet.  These programs have resulted in the ownership of over 100 power units representing over $9 billion in investment capital.

Mr. Kimmelman chairs the boards of both the Far Hills Country Day School and Crime Stoppers of Somerset County and is also the Board President of The Willie Randolph Foundation.  He resides in Bernardsville, New Jersey with his wife and four children.

Mr. Kimmelman received a BA in Economics from Stanford University in 1982 and an MBA from the Wharton School in 1984.

 

Matthew LeBlanc

Mr. LeBlanc joined ArcLight in 2002 and has thirteen years of energy finance and private equity experience.  Prior to joining ArcLight, Mr. LeBlanc was a Vice President at Berenson Minella & Company's energy advisory practice, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions and private equity transactions.  From 1998 to 2000, Mr. LeBlanc was an Associate in the Global Power Group at Salomon Smith Barney.  Mr. LeBlanc began his career at The NorthBridge Group, an economic and strategic consulting firm serving the electric power and natural gas industries.  Mr. LeBlanc earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Economics from Dartmouth College and a Master of Business Administration from the Yale School of Management.

 

John G. Rice
Vice Chairman, General Electric
President & CEO, GE Infrastructure

John G. Rice, 50, is Vice Chairman of GE and President & CEO of GE Infrastructure. This business segment includes Energy, Aviation, Rail, Oil & Gas, Water, Energy Financial Services, and Aviation Financial Services. Prior to his current position, Rice served as Vice Chairman of GE and President & CEO of GE Industrial.

Rice began his General Electric career in 1978 as a member of the Financial Management Program, moving to the GE Corporate Audit Staff in 1981. In 1984 he joined GE Appliances, having various assignments in operations and consumer service.

In 1992 Rice was named President and CEO of GE’s Canadian appliance affiliate in Toronto, Canada. He assumed leadership of the GE Corporate Audit Staff in 1994, and a year later was appointed President of GE Plastics Asia/Pacific business headquarters in Singapore. Rice was appointed President and CEO, GE Transportation Systems in Erie, Pennsylvania, in September 1997.

Rice was named President and CEO of GE Energy, a leading supplier of power generation technology, energy services, and energy management systems in November of 2000 through June of 2005.

Rice earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, and currently serves on the Board of Trustees there. In addition, Mr. Rice is a trustee of Emory University, the Woodruff Arts Center, the Georgia Research Alliance, and the Walker School in Marietta, Georgia. In addition, he is past chairman of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. He and his family live in Roswell, Georgia.
