Fred R. Buenrostro Jr.

CalPERS
Fred R. Buenrostro Jr. has been the CalPERS Chief Executive Officer since December 2002, administering the nation's largest public pension fund. CalPERS provides retirement and health benefits to more than 1.4 million current and retired California public employees and their families.
As the System's seventh CEO, Mr. Buenrostro oversees CalPERS employees, budget, and operations, spanning investments, health, and retirement benefits administration, actuarial and employer services, and other supplemental programs.
Mr. Buenrostro came to CalPERS with more than 25 years experience in public service, including more than 15 years on the CalPERS Board and 11 years on the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS) Board. He served as the representative to the CalPERS and CalSTRS Boards for two State Controllers, three State Treasurers, and the Director of the Department of Personnel Administration.
Prior to becoming CalPERS CEO, he was the Chief Deputy Director of the Department of Personnel Administration, where he was responsible for the overall administration of the Department. He also served as the Director's top advisor on a wide range of policies and programs affecting State employees.
In addition, Mr. Buenrostro serves as the First Vice President of the California Association of Public Retirement Systems (CALAPRS), an organization of more than three dozen California public pension systems. He also serves as a Board Member of the United Way California Capital Region.
Mr. Buenrostro has a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Pepperdine University and a law degree from McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific.

Mary Cahill

Emory University
Mary L. Cahill is Vice President of Investments and Chief Investment Officer of Emory University overseeing investments of all endowment, trust, operating, and employee benefit funds of the University and related medical facilities.
Prior to joining Emory, Mary was Deputy Chief Investment Officer of Xerox Corporation where she was responsible for developing, recommending and implementing investment alternatives for pension and savings plan assets in excess of $12 billion. Mary was also Chief Investment Officer of the Xerox Canada pension plan.
Mary has 20 years of investment experience with prior positions including Deputy Director of the Virginia Retirement System, Director of the SmithKline pension fund and pension management positions with BellSouth and Merck. Mary has overseen internal equity portfolios, invested fixed income and futures portfolios, developed performance measurement systems, and designed investment options. Mary has served as President of Pension Group East, President of Pension 21 and an executive member of the Financial Executive Institute’s Committee on Investment of Employee Benefit Assets. She is a member of the NYSE Pension Managers Advisory Committee. Mary has an MBA specializing in Finance from St. John’s University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Congressman Gephardt served as Majority Leader of the United States House of Representatives and has been one of the nation's most respected politicians for much of the last two decades. He is an expert on economic issues and foreign affairs, and is an eloquent voice for fairness, justice and opportunity for every American.
Congressman Gephardt was first elected to represent Missouri's Third Congressional District in 1976. As a House freshman, he was given the rare opportunity of serving on both the Ways and Means and Budget Committees, where he became a national leader on health care, trade and tax fairness. In 1984, Gephardt was elected Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-ranking leadership position in the House. In 1987, he became the first democratic candidate to enter the 1988 presidential race, where he won the Iowa Democratic Caucus and helped frame the economic issues that dominated the election. In 1989, he was elected by his colleagues in the House to serve as their Majority Leader and in 2003, Gephardt joined the 2004 presidential race, where he helped define the issues of the election.
Today Congressman Gephardt serves as CEO of Gephardt & Associates, LLC. The group was founded in 2005 with the purpose of providing strategic business consulting, public policy development, capital acquisition and labor relations assistance to companies across the world and multiple industries, allowing them to better compete in the global marketplace. He also is a consultant to and an advisor for FTI Consulting on a broad range of business, governmental, labor, international, and communications issues. In addition, Congressman Gephardt serves on the advisory board of FD, FTI’s strategic and financial communications services subsidiary.

Jeffrey Heil

Jeffrey Heil is the Chief Investment Officer for the Doris Duke Foundation. Prior to joining the Foundation in December 2003, he was Co-Head of Investments at the University of California, where he actively managed equity holdings in three portfolios with $30 billion in total assets, as well as overseeing an additional $15 billion in externally managed funds. Prior to joining the University of California, Mr. Heil was a Vice President of Equity Management for Victory Capital in Cleveland, Ohio and a Corporate Finance Consultant at McKinsey & Company in Cleveland. In New York, he was an Investment Banker at Asset Growth Partners, Manager of the Valuations Group at Arthur Andersen & Co. and started his career as a Securities Analyst at Arnold Bernhard and Company. Mr. Heil earned a BA in Government, summa cum laude, from Ohio University and was selected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. At New York University Graduate School of Business, he was awarded the Marcus Nadler Fellowship and received an MBA in Finance.

Donald Lindsey

Donald W. Lindsey joined The George Washington University (GW) in April 2003 as Chief Investment Officer responsible for management of the University’s $1.0 billion endowment. He is also a Professorial Lecturer of Finance at GW and teaches Applied Portfolio Management in the MBA program. Prior to joining GW, he established the University of Toronto Asset Management Corporation (UTAM) in May 2000 and served as its first President and Chief Executive Officer. UTAM was established to manage the University of Toronto’s CAD$ 4.0 billion in endowment and pension assets. He began his career with the University of Virginia Investment Management Company in 1987, where he served initially as Investment Analyst and proceeded to become Assistant Director of Investments, Senior Investment Officer and Director. He has taught in the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia and the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. In addition, he has appeared several times as a guest on Toronto-based Report on Business Television. He holds the CFA designation, and has also taught CFA exam preparation and other courses in Croatia, Romania, Japan, South Africa, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland and has served on the CFA Institute Council of Examiners. He is a member of the Investment Advisory Committee of the Virginia Retirement System. Mr. Lindsey holds a BA in Political Science from Virginia Tech and an MBA from James Madison University.

Mark W. Yusko is the President and Chief Investment Officer of Morgan Creek Capital Management, LLC, a registered investment adviser formed in July 2004 to provide investment management and advisory services based on the University Endowment Model of investing to wealthy families, individuals and institutional investors. Morgan Creek currently has $3.7 billion in assets under advisement in non-discretionary accounts and discretionary funds.
Morgan Creek provides an “Outsourced CIO” solution to clients in need of a comprehensive investment solution, as well as a suite of manager-of-manager products to assist clients in building investment programs based on the University Endowment Model. MCCM provides best-in-class thinking about Asset Allocation, Manager Selection and Portfolio Construction through advisory relationships and discretionary investment vehicles. Currently, Morgan Creek offers five discretionary funds: Morgan Creek Fund, Morgan Creek Partners, Tiger Select Opportunity Fund, Tiger Select Absolute Return Fund and Tiger Select BRIC Plus Fund. Additionally, Morgan Creek has formed joint venture partnerships with Salient Partners and Hatteras Partners to provide comprehensive investment solutions through a series of SEC registered investment vehicles.
Prior to forming Morgan Creek, Mark served as the Chief Investment Officer for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) from 1998 to 2004. Mark, and his team, founded the UNC Management Company (UNCMC) in July of 2002 to provide comprehensive investment advisory services to the University including strategic and tactical asset allocation, investment manager selection, manager performance evaluation, spending policy management and performance reporting. The Management Company was also responsible for providing Cash Management and Planned Giving Management services as well as aiding in the commercialization of University technology and real estate development projects. UNCMC also provided outsourced investment management services to select schools within the UNC System. Total assets under management were $1.5 billion, $1.2 billion of Endowment and $300 million of University working capital.
Prior to joining UNC, Mark was the Senior Investment Director for the University of Notre Dame Investment Office, where he joined as the Assistant Investment Officer, in October of 1993. He worked with the Chief Investment Officer in all aspects of Endowment Management including asset allocation, investment manager selection, manager performance evaluation, spending policy management and reporting to the Board of Trustees. Mark was primarily responsible for portfolio construction and was actively involved in establishing and building strong programs in real estate, private equity and marketable alternatives.
At both Notre Dame and at UNC, Mark co-founded the Applied Investment Management course where a select group of students actively managed a live equity portfolio. The class focused on the integration of academic investment theory and the practical investment management process, and has enjoyed tremendous success since inception.
Mark received his Bachelor of Science Degree, with honors, in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame in 1985 and a Masters of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance from the University of Chicago in 1987.
Mark is an active speaker on investment topics ranging from asset allocation to manager selection, with a particular emphasis on the integration of alternative investments into traditional portfolios. Mark is an Advisory Board member of a number of private capital partnerships and alternative investment programs and has served as a consultant on alternative investments to a select group of institutions. He is currently a Board member of the MCNC Endowment, The Weaver Foundation and Carolina Meadows.
